JPS school board passes new budget for 2010-2011 school year

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (AP): New this morning!

The Jackson school board has approved more than $270 million for the 2010-2011 school year.

That's about 12% less than the previous year's budget. The board passed the budget by a 3-1 vote.

School officials are not requesting an increase in revenue from the city.

The city funds about $87.4 million for the district.

Superintendent Lonnie Edwards Sr. says that teachers will lose four paid days, but the district will have employees come in early for two paid days of training.
