Former animal control officer arrested for killing strays

Posted: Updated:

MADISON COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A former Canton animal control officer has been arrested for killing stray animals and dumping them in a Madison County creek.

Esco was arrested by Madison County Justice Court officials Wednesday on nine counts of animal cruelty.

The arrest warrants stem from allegations that Esco shot numerous animals and dumped their carcasses in a creek in Canton.

Esco's case was dismissed in circuit court because he was serving as an animal control officer.

If convicted he could face a maximum fine of one-thousand dollars and six months in jail on each count.

Esco is free Thursday night on nine-thousand-dollar bond.
