ATLANTA, GA (AP): New this morning!
About a quarter of the swine flu vaccine, produced for the U.S. Public, has now expired.
That means at least 40 million doses of the vaccine, or $260 million, will be written off as trash. The outdated vaccines will be burned.
The amount is more than twice the usual leftovers and will likely set a record.
But this is not the first batch of expired vaccines.
An estimated 30 million more doses will expire later and may go unused.
If all that vaccine expires, more than 43% of the supply for the U.S. Public will have gone to waste.
