JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Police Chief Rebecca Coleman is looking over a proposal to expand the number of beats in two city precincts.
Deputy Chief Eric Wall and his command staff put together a proposal and power point presentation for the chief explaining that the number of calls in precinct one in south Jackson. And Precinct Four in north Jackson have increased more than 32,000 calls for service have come in from Precinct One this year alone, that's an exorbitant amount.
Chief Walls says the recent annexation in south Jackson has translated into higher activity.
"What we looked at is calls for service. It will split the current beat. What we have existing now. It will incorporate the annexed area, so it will change the whole dynamics of what we're looking at now," said Deputy Chief Wall.
The proposal calls for increasing the number of beats from eight to twelve in precincts one and four.
