BROOKHAVEN, MS (WLBT) - Nearly two and a half years ago Virginia Ratliff disappeared. The elderly Brookhaven woman left her home to visit her husband at the VA Hospital and hasn't been seen since.
This past Tuesday her husband Charles died. The couple was married 62 years before she went missing in February of 2008. Family members describe the Brookhaven couple as being extremely close and affectionate. But despite the uncertainty of Virginia Ratliff's whereabouts and the pain of loss relatives have had some closure.
Her brother Caby Byrne says his sister was remembered during Charles Ratliff's funeral Friday.
"We had a joint service for the two of them and Brookhaven friends spoke and things were said. They were known as twins in Mississippi. They were inseparable," Byrne said.
Family members say they are comforted that Ratliff's disappearance led to Mississippi's creation of the silver alert system for missing seniors, similar to the amber alert system.
