Miss Mississippi 2010: Second Night of Preliminary Competition

VICKSBURG, Miss. (WLBT) - There were no ties in Thursday's second night of preliminary competition at the Miss Mississippi Pageant.

For the first time in four years a double win for Miss Mid South, Danielle Smith.

There were four contestants who made the top ten in 2009 who competed in the swimwear preliminary Thursday night.

Kristen Benigno - Miss University of Southern Mississippi

Chelsea Rick - Miss Alcorn County

Jessica Cofield - Miss Riverland

Fenly Akers - Miss Mississippi State University

When the judges' ballots were counted, the winner was Miss Mississippi State, Fenly Akers.

"Well it is a way of life, its a lifestyle but I also dance on pointe and that's my talent so I get a workout every time I practice my dance. So it is a way of life but my talent helps a lot as well." Akers said.

In the talent competition, several more members from the top ten in 2009.

Miss Metro Jackson, Sarah Beth James, and Miss Mid South, Danielle Smith, tied in the swimwear preliminary Wednesday night.

The winner for the first time after four tries in talent is Miss Mid South, Danielle Smith.

"First talent prelim ever and so, and its just mission accomplished on that. I brought a lot out of myself on this routine. I practiced, I changed, I was in the dance room and I worked really hard." Smith said.

Four more "Quality of Life" finalists were named Thursday night for their volunteer work in the state:

Miss Heartland - Meagan Holaday

Miss University of Southern Mississippi - Kristen Benigno

Miss Deep South - Julie Amelia Falgout

Miss Riverland - Jessica Cofield

Friday's final night of preliminary competition is the last chance for the contestants to win enough points to make the top ten Saturday night, when the scoring starts all over.

The final night of preliminary competition begins Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the Vicksburg Convention Center.
