Local charity competes in national contest

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Mississippi charity is in the running for a national challenge. The Mississippi Food Network is competing against a thousand other charitable organizations, hoping to win $50,000.

It's all part of the Pepsi Refresh Project, which helps fund projects every month that can brighten communities.

And you can help pick the winner. You can vote online for up to 10 competitors every day. The Mississippi Food Network says it would use the money to by fresh produce for those in need.

"A lot of them can't purchase fresh produce or they don't live next to the grocery store. So a lot of them depend on this canned, which is fine, it's great, we all eat it, but it's so nice to be able to purchase fresh produce," said Marilyn Blackledge of the Mississippi Food Network.

To vote for your favorite charitable idea, log onto www.refresheverything.com. You can vote in this month's challenge through July 31st.
