RAYMOND, MS (WLBT) –  Funeral services were held Monday for the First Lady of Hinds Community College.

Vashti Muse died Friday in a car accident.

Hundreds gathered at Cain-Cochran Hall to pay tribute to the wife of Hinds Community College President, Dr. Clyde Muse.

The 76-year-old had a long career in education and retired in 1996 but returned to teach reading at the community college.

As family members arrived to say goodbye, employees and friends lined the streets wearing her favorite color purple.

Mrs. Muse leaves behind her husband of 58 years, three children, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

"We are having an employee tribute by wearing her favorite color purple with purple ribbons and we are lining the road as the family members came to Cain Cochran Hall today for this visitation and services this afternoon," said H.C.C. spokesperson Cathy Hayden.

Muse was buried at the Raymond Cemetery.
