LANSING, MI (AP)--New This Morning! A small team from the Michigan Army National Guard will train in Mississippi before being sent to Afghanistan.
Soldiers from a Lansing-based contingency contracting team left Monday for Camp Shelby.
After they receive specialized training, they expect to spend a year in Afghanistan where they'll handle contracting in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The team consists of four soldiers familiar with fiscal and contract law, federal, defense, and army acquisition regulations and procurement policy as well as the use and accountability of appropriated funds.
More than 800 Michigan National Guard soldiers and airmen are deployed outside the state right now.
