JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Police have identified the man found dead behind an abandoned house in west Jackson Monday night.

The badly decomposed body of Michael Irving Hayes was discovered shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Sunset Drive which is just off Northside Drive.

A convenience store security guard found Hayes after residents noticed a foul smell.

The state crime lab is performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

It appeared to be from a gunshot.
