SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) - Nissan is shutting down assembly plant production in Smyrna and Canton, Miss., for three days due to a problem getting an electronic part.
The shutdown Thursday, Friday and Monday at the plants will idle about 3,500 workers in Smyrna and about 3,300 workers in Canton.
Nissan spokesman Steve Parrett said employees are compensated for days they work.
He said some employees could take vacation time during the shutdown.
Parrett said there is a "short term delay" in getting engine control modules made by Hitachi Automotive Systems Ltd.
He said the problem is stopping production Wednesday through Friday in Japan.
Vehicles built at Smyrna include the Altima, Maxima, Frontier pickup, Pathfinder and Xterra.
Vehicles built in Canton include the Titan pickup, Armada and Altima.
