JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson police are investigating the Capital City's latest shooting. It happened Tuesday around 8:45 p.m. in the 3600 block of Hollywood Avenue. That street runs parallel to Medgar Evers Boulevard, on the west side.
Police identified the shooting victim as 19-year-old Pierre Cooper. Wednesday, Cooper is at University Medical Center listed in good condition.
Officials said the shooting stemmed from an argument between two groups of young men.
Eyewitnesses told investigators after a verbal confrontation, one of the young men began firing a gun at the other group.
Cooper was struck in the back and transported to the hospital. He was the only person hit by a bullet.
Police were able to recover a weapon, but the shooter remains at large.
"We were able to recover six shell casings and one nine millimeter weapon. From that we'll continue our investigation," said JPD Assistant Chief Lee Vance. "We have not been able to identify a suspect at this time, but we're working to do so."
It's still unclear whether Pierre Cooper was the intended target of the gunman.
Only one person who was at the scene was willing to talk to police investigators about what happened that night.
