FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - Customers leaving the Flowood Walmart Wednesday described the scene as chaotic as police converged on the store with guns and shields.

Flowood police said initially they received a call reporting a robbery at the customer service counter, but, once on the scene, authorities said that wasn't the case.

Two people were taken into custody.

Jennifer Hopson was shopping with her infant daughter.

"All of a sudden I heard these workers start running back toward the back, and then they were hollering for police officers, and then that they had someone held hostage in the back," said Hopson.  "So I kind of freaked out and started running back toward the front of the store and I tried to leave, and they wouldn't let me leave."

"I was gonna continue to shop except that they wouldn't let me," said another shopper.  "It really wasn't a frightening situation.  It was more aggravating because they wouldn't let anybody out."

Investigators said the store was on lock down for more than half an hour.

A second call from inside the store brought more officers in search of suspects.

"A second call came back into the police headquarters on 9-1-1 threatening to do harm to pedestrians and police officers that the suspect saw by using a gun, or he even mentioned explosives," said Flowood Police Chief Johnny Dewitt.

Some customers said they saw armed men inside the store, but police said no weapons were found.

One customer described the experience:  "Very scary moments."

No injuries were reported.  The names of the two taken into custody have not been released. Police said there could possibly be others involved.
