Investigation continues after Walmart lockdown

Posted: Updated:

FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - Police are still investigating the events that led to a lockdown at the Flowood Walmart.

A WLBT reporter inside the store took cell-phone pictures after officers had closed the entrances.

For about two hours Wednesday afternoon, no one was allowed to enter or leave the store.

Flowood Police Chief Johnny Dewitt said it started when someone reported an armed robbery at the customer service counter.

Officers responded but found no such crime.

While police were on the scene, Dewitt said someone called 9-1-1 at least a dozen times, threatening to harm or even kill the officers and others inside the store.

Two people were taken into custody.  They were questioned and released Wednesday night.

No weapons or explosives were ever found, and the store resumed normal operations.
