Man convicted of statutory rape

Posted: Updated:

HINDS COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A man convicted of statutory rape after having sex with a teenager has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to register as a sex offender.

Kenketrick Freeman was 29 when he started chatting with the girl two years ago in an Internet chat room. She was 14 at the time. Authorities say they met and had sex hours later, leading to Freeman's arrest and conviction.

Freeman said the girl told him she was 19. Hinds County Assistant District Attorney Jamie McBride says this is the fourth case he has prosecuted in the past three months in which a minor female met a man online and later had sex.
