(WLBT) - A long time supporter of education is honored Saturday by Mississippi Valley State University.
The new MVSU student plaza was dedicated to U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson in a naming ceremony held on the school's campus in Itta Bena.
The Democrat has been in congress since 1993 and currently serves as chairman of Homeland Security. Thompson faces Republican Bill Marcy and reform party candidate Ashley Norwood in the November second general election.
