JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Plans are underway to help Hawkins Field take off in the future.
Residents who live near the air field were able to look at photographs and an outline of what is being called the master plan Monday.
The public is also being asked for ideas on how to make improvements.
Dirk Vanderleest, CEO of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority says this is an 18 month process for the federally funded project. He says this public meeting for residents is required by the plan.
"Basically it outlines a 5, 10, and 20 year plan for Hawkins Field. It includes both the air field, as well as the landside and the surrounding communities. And to make sure that we are compatible to the community itself," said Vanderleest.
The project will include upgrades to terminal buildings. The plan will also look at the aircraft based at Hawkins, air space around the field as well as availability of runways and taxiways.
Vanderleest says the long range goal is to create more jobs. For a link on the plan go to www.hawkinsmasterplan.com.
