Jackson residents calls 3 On Your Side about road problems

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - For 50 years Minnie Alvis has lived on Berkley Drive off Eastover Drive, but she has never seen the street look like this.  Her crusade to get the road repaved began near the end of 2008 by calling her city councilman and other Jackson leaders.

"I started trying to something about it about 18 months ago and contacted different people and got no where with it," said Alvis.

On May 17th Alvis was initially relieved when city crews finally responded.  "They worked one day and left and have not come back.  I have tried to get something done about it and I have not and it's in worse condition then it was before they started working on it," said Alvis.

When city crews left, they left behind gravel.  When it rains the small rocks move into the yards of the Berkley Drive residents.  It has been more than two months after the road crew's brief visit and Alvis still could not get answers on when or if they would return.

"When I couldn't get help I felt desperate, so I felt like the only thing to do was call WLBT because they could get something done," said Alvis.

WLBT called the city and explained her complaint and the condition of Berkley Drive.  Jackson city spokesperson Chris Mims said the crews stopped the project because they ran out of materials.  Mims told WLBT road crews will start up the repaving process next week.
