COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC-TV) - Monday was another day of wonder and worry as police and family members looked for any sign of former Memphis basketball player Lorenzen Wright.
Wright's mother reported the basketball star missing to Collierville Police on Thursday, after no one in his family had seen him in four days.
The last family member to see Wright was his ex-wife, Sherra Wright, at her Collierville home on July 18. Sherra Wright said she was worried about her ex-husband, who is the father of their six children. She said Lorenzen left while she was sleeping, came back and then left again.
The next afternoon, a barber at New Era Barbershop on Malco Crossing said he cut Lorenzen Wright's hair, and he was his normal, cheerful self. Wright told his barber he was going to Atlanta for a try out. He hasn't been seen or heard from since.
Monday, Sherra Wright continued to wait for any word about her ex-husband, the father of her six children.
"We're hopeful," she said. Today is one of the worst days for me because it's been an entire week."
A first round draft choice in 1996, the former Memphis Tiger made millions in 13 NBA seasons, but recently, he's fallen on difficult personal and financial times. But Mark Heuberger, a spokesperson for Collierville's police department, said investigators don't believe anything malicious has occurred.
"Nothing leads us to believe there is any foul play at this time," Heuberger said Sunday.
However, as time passes, the situation grows more worrisome. So far, police investigators have interviewed more than 100, and are searching for any credible information about Wright's location. Heuberger said there has been no activity on Wright's passport, but he cannot comment about his cell phone or credit cards.
Meanwhile, his ex-wife continues to hope for the best.
"I can't believe anything other than that he's fine now," she said. "I just need somebody to call if they see him or hear anything from him."
If you know anything that could help investigators find Wright, call 901-853-3207.
