Brookhaven residents call 3 On Your Side about vandalism

BROOKHAVEN, MS (WLBT) - The van Pastor Jerry Durr uses to deliver food, clothes and furniture to needy families was out of commission Monday.

"It was a large stone that was thrown through the windshield.  We didn't even know why they did it," said Durr, President of Brookhaven Outreach Ministries.

This was not the first time Brookhaven Outreach Ministry has been the target of vandals, so Durr always locks up tight. The nearly $200 it will cost to replace this windshield will dip into the ministry's tight budget.

"There's a sad countenance knowing you are trying to do good then someone just can come by and cause you extra burden," said Durr.

One block away on East Court Street, LeKandra Hogro, called 3 On Your Side about what she found outside her home early Saturday morning.

"Came out, glass was all over my porch, my mailbox was totally kicked in," said Hogro.

It is especially frightening because her family was the victim of a break in two months ago. A group of boys broke into her house while her teen sons were alone. Hogro claims 14-year-old Darrius was beaten so badly he had to be rushed to UMC in Jackson.

"I got hit right here upside the head with a beer bottle," said Hogro's son Darrius Pendleton.

"I would like to see each one of those children who breaking in my house brought to justice," said Hogro.

Brookhaven Police Chief "Pap" Henderson gave WLBT this statement, "We have some issues. We're dealing with those issues and we're making arrests. A large percent of these cases involve juveniles. We're going to continue to protect the people of this town."
