COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - Columbus Public Works Department crews are back on a 5-day work week.
Vice Mayor Bill Gaven tells the Commercial Dispatch that spreading work out over five days means employees won't be out in the heat as much with a 4-day week.
Since July 2008, city employees in all departments - except police officers, firefighters and the Trotter Convention Center staff - have been working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Councilman Charlie Box says he'd like to see all city departments move back to a 5-day work week. He says some residents cannot get help on Fridays when city offices are closed.
