JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A new school year is about to begin, and for some parents, buying school supplies is a stretch.
But one local organization is hoping to ease their worries.
The Junior League of Jackson is donating 115 book bags filled with school supplies to students at French Elementary in Jackson.
It's all part of the league's long-standing "Book Buddies" program.
Every year, the organization donates school supplies to students identified by JPS as having the greatest need.
Some of those students accepted the donations Wednesday morning on behalf of the French Elementary student body.
"We know that during this time of year, the parents are anxiously anticipating being able to get the necessary supplies and book bags to be able to come to school the first day of school, so we're very excited to have the support of our community," said Sebrina Brown, French Elementary School principal.
The organization is also donating book bags to Lake Elementary and Hardy Middle School.
The school year begins Monday, August 16th, for Jackson Public Schools.
