DESOTO COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A federal appeals court has refused to dismiss a lawsuit filed by three former employees of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department claiming they were fired for reporting an inmate beating by a co-worker.
The lawsuit, filed against then-Sheriff James A. Riley and two deputies, alleged the three plaintiffs witnessed a handcuffed prisoner being beaten.
Within 24 hours after reporting the incident, the plaintiffs were fired for baseless and frivolous reasons.
