Sex offender arrested in the Capital City

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Authorities have taken another convicted sex offender off the streets.

The Hinds County Sheriff's Department with assistance from the U.S. Marshal's Task Force arrested 49-year-old Ernest Cheatham shortly after six o'clock Wednesday morning.

Investigators tracked Cheatham to a residence in North Jackson where he is believed to have lived since 2007.

He is charged with being a non-compliant sex offender.

Cheatham was convicted of sexually-based offenses in Houston, Texas, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

He is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center.

Bond has not been set as of Wednesday.
