Culvert problem closes Ridgeland street

RIDGELAND, MS (WLBT) - Officials have closed a portion of a Ridgeland street after a failed culvert caused part of the roadway to cave in.

It happened Tuesday afternoon on West School Street, which runs off Highway 51 to the west.

City officials did not say what caused the culvert to fail. Heavy-equipment operators were on the scene to dig up the pavement and reach the source of the problem.

A recorded message sent to Ridgeland residents said the road would be closed at least until Thursday.
