HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Petal man has been sentenced to six years for setting fire to an animal shelter with another two years tacked on for burglary of the same building.
Ricky Pierce was charged with burglary and arson following the fire that destroyed the office of Southern Pines Animal Shelter and killed four cats on Dec. 20, 2009.
The Hattiesburg American reports Pierce, a former employee of the animal shelter, was sentenced this week in Forrest County Circuit Court.
Pierce also was ordered to reimburse the animal shelter $22,659, pay back QBE Insurance Corp. $51,582 and was fined $2,500.
