Sales Tax Holiday a success for many businesses

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Despite the poor economic news, shoppers still turned out in droves at Jackson Metro area stores.

You still have time to take advantage of Mississippi's Sales Tax Holiday.

Parking lots outside of stores and malls were overflowing this afternoon. The last day of tax free shopping drew thousands to the Dogwood Shopping Center in Flowood. Most single clothing items and shoes priced under $100.00 were not taxed at check out. That meant bargains for customers and a big boom in business for local shops.

'It's been great for us. We started off a little slow for the weekend, but we picked up really good so its booming. It's really good," said Migi's Sales Associate, Alisha Shirley.
