JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Governor Haley Barbour declared this past week "Mississippi Craft Beer Week" and Saturday a new event celebrated that recognition.
"The Top Of The Hops Beer Festival" was held at the Jackson Convention Complex. It showcased 150 craft beers from around the world.
Craft beers are from small independent breweries. Those attending sampled craft, imported and domestic beers while listening to live music and playing games. The event also offered seminars on cooking with beer, home brewing and pairing the right beer with the right foods.
"When you come in you get a two ounce sampling mug and a festival guide which lists all the beers in there and with all the different descriptions and you also get a little pencil so you can take notes and circle the beers you like," Olivia Hart with Red Mountain Entertainment.
Abita Beer sponsored the event and plans to host it again next year.
