BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - The Brookhaven School District is cracking down on kids who overstep their boundaries when giving each other a hard time.
District Superintendent Lea Barrett tells The Daily Leader there have always been disciplinary measures in place, but that putting a name on the bullying issue has really helped focus the new policy that was adopted into the handbook by the school board.
Barrett says a student has to report the behavior to a teacher, principal or counselor, and then the policy spells out what needs to be done by the district, whether it involves calling the parents or calling the police.
