PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A Jackson County woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of her husband in 2005.
Jennifer Benton entered the plea Monday just before her trial was to begin in circuit court.
Assistant district attorney Brice Wiggins says Benton will be sentenced Sept. 1. He says prosecutors are recommending a 15-year sentence. Benton faces a maximum 20 years in prison.
Benton had originally been charged with capital murder.
Authorities say James Benton was shot to death on May 12, 2005, while the two were riding in their car in Moss Point. James Benton's body was found in the couple's car at Lucedale City Park.
Jennifer Benton's first trial last year ended in a mistrial.
