LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - All southbound lanes of I55 have reopened between the Bogue Chitto exit and the Pike County line. That stretch of interstate was closed more than eight hours because of an accident.
An 18-wheeler pulling an empty tanker ran into the median into the creek because the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The truck was half-way submerged
The driver, Michael Covington from Zachary, Louisiana, was taken to Kings Daughter in Brookhaven.
Milton Tolliver, of New Orleans, was also injured. He was in the sleeper part of the truck. He was also taken to the hospital.
The 2010 Freightliner truck belongs to Linden Bulk Transportation out of New Jersey.
