JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - It is known as one of the finest strategic airlift wings in the country, and it is based here in Jackson.
With 25% of its members on active duty, the 172nd Air Lift Wing of the Mississippi Air National Guard has once again reached new heights of excellence.
The unit welcomed a new wing commander this weekend.
Thirty-twp year veteran Colonel William J. Crisler officially replaces Colonel William Hill July 15th.
Crisler reminded his men that their willingness to do more with less was the wing's greatest accomplishment.
"But I am actually here today to honor you. It is because of your selfless service, your honor, your integrity, and your pride and service to our country; Those are the attributes that have made this unit great," said Colonel William Crisler, the 172nd Wing Commander.
The wing executes five combat missions per week and is known for its medical and combat readiness.
