JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson police continued their investigation Thursday into the South Jackson parents accused of killing their toddler.

Investigators found the child's remains Wednesday behind the family's home on Lee Drive.

Bones were found in a shed at the bottom of a barrel.  It appeared the child had been burned.

The child was identified as Keith Cassidy Junior.  He was two-years-old at the time of his death.

"Thing that devastates me is how can people be that brutal towards a two-year-old.  What can a two-year-old do to get you that angry," said JPD Assistant Chief Lee Vance.

Only Keith Cassidy Junior's mother can answer that.  Kathleen Cassidy dodged reporters questions leaving her initial appearance in Jackson Thursday.

She is charged with capital murder in the crime, along with her husband Keith Cassidy Senior, who's already serving a 22-year sentence for drug possession.

For three long years, the couple kept the child's death a secret.  Relatives constantly asked for his whereabouts.

"We were made aware by concerned family members who realized the child was missing.  They told us they were given an explanation by the parent as to where the child was, and for a certain amount of time, they believed it till it became more and more obvious that something else was going on," said Vance.

Family members declined to talk to the media during the court appearance.
