Jackson, MS (WLBT) - A $150 million dollar school bond referendum has allowed for several major construction projects in the Jackson Public School district this year.
With classes set to start Monday, some students won't be able to test out some of the new schools for about a month.
Weather and other problems have pushed back the opening of four brand new schools, they had hoped to have ready for the first day.
Bates Elementary, Cardozo Middle, Kirksey Middle and Peeples Middle schools won't be opened till September 14th.
There are some projects that have been completed, like this $2.1 million dollar wing added onto McLeod Elementary.
Officials held a ribbon cutting Friday, allowing parents and students to get an early peek.
PTA President Valerie Luckett sized up the learning area saying, "It's a great addition it will get them out of the portables with the learning in a clean, comfortable cool environment. It shouldn't hinder learning because now they can focus on learning and less on the problems around them."
The new schools at other locations will have the same effect once they're done.
