ARLINGTON, VA - (WLBT) - A Jackson soldier who died in captivity during the Korean War will receive full military honors during burial at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday.
Corporal Roy Stewart was a member of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division when he was captured by North Korean soldiers in November 1950.
He died the following march in captivity, one of some 2,000 American troops who died as prisoners of war. Recent dental comparisons of remains and forensic evidence found them to be those of Stewart. Some 8,000 service members remain missing from that conflict.
