High speed chase sends driver to hospital

COPIAH COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A high speed chase ended in a wreck in Copiah County, sending one man to the hospital.

It happened on Jackson Liberty Road at Midway outside Wesson.

Authorities said it was Marshall Walker's second wreck that day.

First, the Crystal Springs man hit a light pole on Sylvarena Road and ended up in a ditch, according to Copiah County EOC officials. They said a good Samaritan helped Walker get his Chevy truck back on the road. But, when sheriff's deputies arrived, Walker took off, leading authorities on a high speed chase.

He eventually wrecked a second time, and his truck caught fire. It was put out quickly, and the truck is now at a nearby wrecker company.

Walker was not wearing his seatbelt, but was not ejected from the truck, according to EOC officials. He taken to Hardy Wilson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Copiah County Sheriff's department plans to arrest Walker for running from officials when he is released from the hospital.

Chief Deputy Tony Hemphill said this isn't Walker's first arrest. Walker has been arrested in the past on narcotics charges, and has a history of running from police, according to Hemphill.

No drugs were recovered from the vehicle.
