JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - One of the world's largest aerospace manufacturers, Eaton Corporation, is located in the Jackson metro area.

Eaton Mississippi produces hydraulic pumps used for commercial and military aircraft.

"Anytime you're in a airplane there's a 50-50 chance the product came from this facility," said Eaton Plant Manager Bryan Edwards.

While Congress is out of session, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker toured the facility as part of an extensive statewide tour over the next month.

"Because of their efficiency they are able to compete with China and other places and have their fair share of sales worldwide," Wicker said.

In addition, Wicker says he was impressed to see how much of their facility generate use of military aircraft worldwide.

"Parts that are manufactured here are used to make our troops safer to make Americans secure all over the world," said Wicker.

To make one of these hydraulic pumps they are hand crafted. Workers spend anywhere from two to wight hours to complete one of the pumps. Once the pumps are complete, they are tested in a simulator.

"The technician mounts the unit to the test stand, gets it all prepared. And then runs it through a computer generated system that meets all the customer requirements," Edwards said.

Eaton Mississippi has been around since 1963 and currently employs about 565 people. They do business with about 111 suppliers statewide and generate about $4.9 million towards those suppliers.

In 2009, Eaton Corporation generated a sales revenue of $11.9 billion and does business with about 150 countries worldwide.
