JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Foundation for the Mid South has been supporting community organizations for years. But, for the first time, it's getting the public involved in the nomination process.

It's asking the public to nominate those making a difference in the community as part of it's "do-gooders" campaign, which kicked off Tuesday.

At least six "do-gooders" will receive up to $50,000 in grant money.

You can nominate do-gooders in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas through September 17th at

Former Mississippi Governor William Winter attended the launch announcement. He helped found the organization 20 years ago.

"We are urging everyone committed to improving the lives of people, neighbors, friends, who live in this region to come with us, do whatever is necessary to lift us up out of that malaise that for so long has haunted this great region of the country," said Winter.

Voting will runs from October 5th through October 26th at

The campaign is aimed at celebrating good deeds and raising awareness about those making a difference in their communities.
