Bond set in Rankin County murder case

Posted: Updated:

Jackson, MS (WLBT) - Servon Moss, the man accused of fatally shooting his stepfather, says he was acting in self-defense. He pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning in Rankin County Circuit Court.

The shooting happened Sunday night outside 66-year-old Marshall Alexander's home on Virginia Valley Drive, north of Brandon.

Prosecutors say Moss shot Anderson twice in the chest during a heated argument.  They say both men were armed.  Moss claims Alexander was the aggressor.

"Now hopefully it will be up to the Grand Jury to determine whether or not this defendant should be indicted for murder, should be indicted for manslaughter or if they feel based on the evidence in this case that it was self defense and that no indictment should be returned. This case will be going forward to the Grand Jury once the investigation is complete," said Rankin County District Attorney Michael Guest.

Bond was set at $50,000.
