JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – Free broadband Internet access is on its way to a north Jackson library.
Tuesday Congressman Bennie Thompson presented a $10,000 check to the Charles Tisdale Library from Broadband for America.
The organization's mission is to bring broadband Internet access to rural and under served communities and households.
Officials said broadband will bring critical access to education, jobs, healthcare and civic discussions to the community.
"By imbuing them with the tools of the future the Charles Tisdale Library can help local members of the community stay connected and engaged," said Ava Parker, with Broadband for America.
"This is also an acknowledgement of Mr. T's work here in the community. So much of what he stood for is right here in this building," said Rep. Bennie Thompson.
The grant will be used to purchase new computers, equipment, supplies, digital training and access to broadband connectivity for one year.
