FLORENCE, MS (WLBT) - U. S. Highway 49 reopened late Saturday night after being closed much of the day due to an overturned 18-wheeler.
Just after 2 p.m. Saturday, Mississippi Highway Patrol officials said a gas-tanker truck turned over in the southbound lanes of the highway just south of Florence.
Gasoline spilled onto the highway and authorities closed both south- and northbound lanes to traffic.
Crews from the Department of Environmental Quality were sent to the scene. Around 4 p.m., four large "hazmat" trucks arrived on the scene to clean up the fuel spill.
