Three Lake schools closed Monday due to storm damage

Posted: Updated:

SCOTT COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Strong winds cause major damage at some Scott County Schools.

The elementary, middle and high schools in Lake, located in the far east side of Scott County, will be closed to students Monday due to the damage.

Sunday night teachers and staff were cleaning up the wet mess the storm left behind. Just before 6:00 Sunday night, school officials say a severe thunderstorm rolled through knocking over light poles, tearing off roofing and damaging classrooms.

"We had major damage to four or five classrooms, as far as roof damage, a lot of water damage. We have a scoreboard down, a light pole down, we had a lot of copies down, but we're just fortunate nobody was injured," said Scott County School Superintendent Frank McCurdy.

Teachers and staff are to report to work Monday for further clean up.
