JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The eggs in your refrigerator are safe. That's the word from a local egg company involved in a massive recall.
Cal-Maine, whose central offices are located on Woodrow Wilson Avenue in Jackson, is recalling about 800-thousand dozen eggs.
This expands a recall from a salmonella outbreak first reported last week.
So far there have been nearly 2,000 reported illnesses from the eggs in three states.
Cal-Maine officials say the eggs were not sold and are not on store shelves, anywhere in the state of Mississippi.
Cal-Maine is the nation's largest egg seller and distributor.
Cal-Maine says it was notified by an Iowa egg producer that between April 9 and August 19, the producer sold 32 truckloads of eggs to them.
