CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) - State transportation officials will host a dedication ceremony on Thursday to name a portion of Mississippi Highway 161 in Coahoma County for late civil rights leader Aaron E. Henry.
The ceremony will be held at Haven United Methodist Church in Clarksdale.
Henry died in 1997 at the age of 74. From 1980 to 1996, Henry served in the Mississippi House, fighting for improved health care and housing for the poor.
He was head of the state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for 33 years, retiring in 1993.
