BYRAM, MS (WLBT) - A Hinds County church has been targeted by thieves, but they may not be free for long.

Their ungodly act was caught on camera.

Church officials hope you can soon help identify them.

Emmanuel Temple Independent Apostolic Church in Byram is the most recent place of worship to be burglarized.

It is located on the I-55 Frontage Road.

Thursday while making a check of the grounds, Pastor Wesley Miner Jr. discovered the theft of one of the church's Trane five-ton air conditioning units.

"I really hope that somehow that they'll be able to catch these guys, because they don't know the effect they put on churches and the people that they steal these units from, especially this time of year," said Pastor Wesley.

The church has surveillance cameras which recorded the act that took place on the north side of the building on the night of August 17.

"One car came in and two people were in the car. One got out, came around the building and disconnected the air conditioning unit," said the church pastor.

One camera is located just above the targeted unit.

Video shows a man in a white baseball cap walking to the air conditioner, bending down and cutting the copper pipe connection.

"Then about 30 minutes later two guys in a truck came and picked up the unit," said Miner.

It all happened after 9 p.m.

Other cameras then show the dark colored truck leaving the parking lot with the unit in tow.

Replacement costs around $2,500.

Deputy Chief Steve Pickett with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department said the Investigations Division is conducting a probe into the theft.

They are reviewing the surveillance video.

So far no arrests have been made.

The church has now made security improvements.

"I'm just praying that they will be captured," added Pastor Miner.

Emmanuel Temple is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrests of those involved.
