JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - City officials said plans are moving forward with the renaming of a Jackson street in honor of a former television weatherman.
Wednesday the city Planning Committee discussed an ordinance that would rename a portion of Jefferson Street Woodie Assaf Drive.
It would run from Pascagoula Street to Silas Brown Street.
Planning Committee Chairman Ward Three Councilman Kenneth Stokes said a public hearing should take place before the end of September.
They are also considering changing the name of Pascagoula Street from the JSU Parkway to I-55.
It would bear the name Frank E. Melton Drive.
Stokes said there is a delay because some on the council want to name J.P.D. Headquarters in honor of Melton.
Paperwork is still being completed on the Melton Street renaming.
