HCC building named after former board president

RAYMOND, MS (WLBT) - Hinds Community College (HCC) has announced the naming of its new district administration building in honor of its former board president.

The dedication of D.G. "Sonny" Fountain Hall will be held August 26 at 4 p.m. on the corner of Hinds Boulevard and Main Street in Raymond.

The newly completed two-story building will serve as a first stop, or welcome center, for prospective students, alumni and visitors to the college.

The naming of the building honors the late D.G. "Sonny" Fountain, a 30-year member of the HCC Board of Trustees who was serving as the board president at the time of his death, March 28, 2008.  Fountain was the founder and CEO of Chaney Fountain Electric Company, later Fountain Construction Company, and served the board as a member of its construction committee for many years.  That service barred his company from bidding on any college project.

Fountain Hall houses the office of the college president and the Board of Trustees meeting room as well as Institutional Advancement, Enrollment Services, Student Recruiting, Development Foundation, Alumni Association, Business Services Community Relations, Marketing and Grants/External Contracts.

In addition, to support the college's special events hosted by the Institutional Advancement office, the facility has conference rooms and a large meeting room, all with access to a catering kitchen.  An Emeritus Room with office space and technologies has been included for the convenience of college retirees who receive the emeritus designation.

"As board member and president, Sonny Fountain lived his commitment to the college in so many ways - unselfish service, financial support and wise counsel.  We are very pleased that his association with the college will live on through new generations of Hinds students and alumni in this stately building," said Dr. Clyde Muse, HCC president.
