Choctaws Prepare for Backyard Brawl

Mississippi College continues to prepare for its season opener against rival Millsaps in the Backyard Brawl.

There are high expectations for Norman Joseph's squad.

The Choctaws enter the season ranked 22nd in Division-III, coming off a 9-3 season.

If the Chocs want to make another trip to the playoffs, they will have to replace record setting quarterback Adam Shaffer, but junior Tommy Reyer seems to have the position locked down.

They will also depend on the legs of former Northwest Rankin star Steven Knight.

The running back is a preseason All-American and rushed for over 1,300 yards last season.

With these weapons, Coach Joseph says it's not hard to get energized for the season opener.

"I don't know if it is going to be difficult, first of all, it is our first game and our guys, historically most guys are ready to play the first game and I'm sure our guys will too. I know Millsaps will be. It's a big time rivalry, there are a lot of good players and they have an excellent coaching staff. Coach Aaron Pelch has a great staff, but we know it's going to be a very tough ballgame," said Joseph.

The Backyard Brawl is set for September 4th at Millsaps.
