Hinds EOC director fires his assistant

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Thursday morning Charles Graham walked into the Hinds County Emergency Operation offices as Assistant Director.  Later that afternoon he left without a job.

"I was actually fired from a job today around 1 p.m. by Mr. Jimmy Lewis," said Graham.

No explanation was given as EOC Director Jimmy Lewis escorted Graham outside to his car.  Graham is the brother of Board of Supervisors President Robert Graham and a former Jackson Fire Department Deputy Chief.  Lewis had hired him in December of 2009.

"There were no written guidelines.  He had anger management issues and I'm not a psychiatrist, but he had some unresolved personal issues and he was drinking on the job," said Graham.

Graham confronted Lewis about allegedly drinking at work on multiple occasions.  We tried to get Lewis' side of the story when he left the office Thursday evening.

"I can't say anything. It's a personnel matter," said Lewis when WLBT News asked why Graham was fired.

In a four-to-one vote last year, the Board of Supervisors confirmed Lewis to replace retiring EOC Director Larry Fisher.  Fisher had recommended his assistant of 20 years, Ricky Moore, for the job.  Moore is now suing the Hinds County Board of Supervisors for racial discrimination.  The lone board member that voted for Moore was Phil Fisher.  Now Graham agrees.

"I hate to say it, but Phil Fisher was correct.  He was not the person and is not the person and will never be the person to lead EOC," said Graham.
