JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Stephen Simpson accepted the resignation of Bill Maxey, Director of Fleet for the Department of Public Safety Friday.
He has been employed with the Department of Public Safety since 2008, and recently has been placed in the center of debate over the interpretation of DFA Bureau of Fleet rules and regulations governing private use of state vehicles.
"Bill Maxey has been a loyal and dedicated employee of the Department of Public Safety. He has cooperated fully with state auditor's office and will voluntarily refund any amount determined to be owed as a result of disputed use of a state vehicle. I appreciate the many contributions bill has made to the Department of Public Safety," Simpson said.
This month, Kevin Upchurch, Director of the Department of Finance and Administration established a task force including representatives of the State Auditor's office, the Department of Public Safety and other state agencies to revise and clarify rules and regulations governing assignment and use of state vehicles.
